2017

Saturday 5th August saw us once again run in conjunction with Hound Association. Our judge was Barbara Henry, one of our Club Patrons and founder member of the Club. There was a healthy entry of 16 but with 6 absentees.  The weather forecast was for heavy showers and unfortunately one hit just as Best Dog was being judged. We took cover but the ring was too slippery to use once the rain eased so Barbara elected to go inside.

Once again, we held a raffle in aid of ASNAS and smashed last years amount raising £100. Thanks to everyone who donated prizes or bought tickets. Thanks to Michael Atkinson and Nick Carter for taking the photographs.

Please see below an introduction from our Judge for the Breed Show 2017, Barbara Henry. As you can see, she has a long history with the breed and last year became a Patron of the Club along with her husband Brian.

Brian and I bought our first afghan hound in 1964. He was a red, houndy dog.we called him Juno, bred in Yorkshire by an R E Butterworth. His sire Falconcrag Faiz Amri and his dam Jyana of Carloway. He hated showing.
We joined the Northern Afghan Hound Society in that year. Serving on the committee for many of them. Still serving as President.
Greyhounds were also part of our lives, joining us in 1978. Served for many years as the Treasurer.
I started judging in 1979. I didn't give tickets until  1999 and judge the two breeds at this level.
Through the afghans we became friends with a couple from the Netherlands, Riet and Toon Stokkermans. When we visited them we always took in a championship show. I think it was at Den Bosh that I fell in love with the Sloughi. A World Champion called Al Gharif of Mumtaz-i-Jayanadmi, a fawn.
We became founder members of the Sloughi Club in1998.
Attended a sloughi seminar in Longstowe in Dec 1998. Also passed the club assessment on 23/2/03.
I was included on the B list for judging in 2007/8.
I haven't judged  them a lot doing them at Leeds in 2008 and at the Hound Club of East Anglia in2012. I am looking forward to judging the club show in August.
Barbara W Henry.
